Mochaconnect
Product Design/UX Researcher/iOS & Android
Mochannect was an app that came out of the pandemic.
It was a calendar app that allowed for people to stay connected with each other.
Team members: Dishant Ponugoti (Product Designer|UX researcher), Chloe Lee (Product Designer|UX researcher), Yekaterina Kostina (Product Designer|UX researcher)
Scope: Over the course of 10 weeks we finished the complete iteration of the product.
The Problem
During the pandemic there had been an increased cases of loneliness and depression affecting people, especially younger people. How do we alleviate their issues with the after effects of the pandemic now that we are slowly coming out of it?
User Research
To get a baseline understanding of the public space I conducted 3 semi-structured interviews. Additionally secondary research was conducted and 49 individuals completed a survey. Here are the findings:
Result 1
79% of our users were experiencing depression and loneliness during the pandemic. Many of them mentioned social distancing as the main cause.
Result 2
82% of our users are complained about being bored and wished they could figure out ways to meet their friends on a regular.
Based on the results from our user research we created the following personas for our ideation phase.
STORYBOARDING
STORYBOARDINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
Prototyping
We created a prototype and conducted user testing.
STORYBOARDINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
Hi-fi prototype based off of the feedback the team received from conducting 3 user tests
Users noted that the screens were intuitive. They appreciated the familiarity found in the product.
They noted that they would interact the most with the chat feature, friends feature and comment section.
THE FINAL PRODUCT
What I would do differently next time
This was my first UX project (hooray!!!). More than the output I am immensely grateful to have been through an entire UX process so I can see what it actually is like. On that note, a few things I have learned:
Be insight-driven not process driven. I had directed the initial steps of the project on intuition and secondary research. After user testing we realized that our process was not insight-driven and led us to shift gear.
Iterate more.
Conduct additional interviews between the lo-fi to hi-fi phase. Conducting interviews and user testing during the mid phase of the project could help with further refining the process and the data can be used for future versions of the product.
